Weekend Reflections: High Water

CIMG8149-002

We’ve had a very rainy month of December, and the river is rising. (It’s supposed to keep  to the other side of that fence! Winking smile)

  1. So long as it doesn't get any higher! The amount of rain falling onto ground already saturated is causing problems in many places in Europe from what I see on our news.

    1. I've seen the river spilling over a little more than this before, but that's usually in spring, not already in December. The river is regulated at a couple of places in town (the bottom picture showing one of them). According to the local paper the other day they considered it under control (here). It's worse in some places in the countryside around town.

  2. Many problems in the South of England as well. Many houses flooded and people without any power. Close to home the storm brought many trees down. Hope there are no more storms to come.

    1. Yes, I've seen/heard some reports from the south of England on our news too. England is often where our weather comes from :) ...

    1. Thankyou, Villrose. Yes, well, there's not much else one can do for entertainment in this weather, than try to dramatize it a little... :)

  9. Time to get ready. Do you have all you need for the next two weeks? I guess you need to plan for a flood and a closed supermarket. I hope you will be warm enough. Happy New Year, dear little lady wet feet.

    1. If I lived in one of the buildings closest to the waterside, I might have more reason to feel a little nervous, Louise. (If nothing else, they have been known to have their cellar storage rooms flooded in the past.) I do always try to keep a certain stock of basic food etc at home in witner though, so as not to have to go out on the very worst weather days (whether snow or rain).

  10. I hope it doesn't get too much higher.....for your safety.
We had serious flooding in some of the other islands like St.Vincent with lots of damage. I am presently coordinating relief efforts of food and clothing from my circle of friends to send for those affected.
Worldwide weather has been crazy this year.

    1. For my own part I live at a safe enough distance from the river, Virginia. But of course I hope it stays in place anyway :)

  11. Hopefully it will not get any higher. We had high flooding about 5 years ago and it was difficult.

    1. In some places in the countryside and along the coast, the huge amounts of rain lately are causing much worse problems than here in town.

    1. No Ginny, it has not affected me, except that some days I've avoided to go out!

  13. We've had lots of rain, too, but I don't live close enough to the river (the Neckar) to be in any danger. I hope you're out of harm's way, too!
